Our Story: (1995 – 2017)
First established as “Food From Scotland Ltd” in 1995 the aim was to provide practical help to enable independent food manufactures in Scotland to develop their business by providing sales and marketing consultancy.
As the company grew, niche manufacturing opportunities were identified and 3 bakery companies were bought in 2000; California Cake Company, Campbell’s Cake Company and Patisserie UK.
In 2001 “Food From Scotland” rebranded to become Enterprise Foods Ltd when the company’s mission changed to supply local products not just from Scotland but across the whole of the UK.
After rapid growth and capacity restrictions the three manufacturing company’s required major investment and as a result were sold in the November of 2005. At this time Local Bakery supply became the focus and with the achievement of large contracts with major retailers and food service customers Enterprise Foods saw huge growth.
In 2010 a change in direction was taken and the supply base expanded across other categories including dairy, ambient and hot food to go. Enterprise Foods grew over the next 5 years to become a company with a turnover of £60 million, 45 employees and 150 local suppliers across the UK.
This brought about major growth, not just in terms of supply base but also staffing, systems and capabilities.
In 2016 after continued growth in local supply, Enterprise Foods opened their own distribution HUB in Rochdale, Manchester. This allowed for a more efficient route to market for local suppliers. As of 2017 the supplier base reached 400+ and we deliver over 17,300 different lines to retail and food service customers all over the UK.
Meet our People
Chief Executive Officer
Andy Peterson has spent 25 years working in blue chip companies in marketing, distribution and sales. He spent 19 years with Procter & Gamble, first in the UK, and then in Emerging Markets. He lived and worked for 10 years in the Former Soviet Union, initially in Russia and Ukraine, and then in Central Asia where from 2002 to 2006 he was General Manager responsible for 9 countries. From 2006 to 2010 he was General Manager for 18 countries in South and East Africa with responsibility for setting up distributors and running the business in those countries. Andy moved back to Scotland in 2010 and spent 5 years working for himself, setting up businesses in Emerging Markets for western companies. Amongst other achievements, he set up a network of distributors in South America and the Caribbean for a leading whisky company. He also set up a distribution network for pumps in Turkey and the Caspian Region, on behalf of a Scottish engineering company. Andy joined Enterprise Foods in June 2016.
Garry Clarke is a Chartered Accountant with over 20 years experience working across a number of blue chip organisations. Having qualified through Wylie and Bisset CA he worked in Compaq for 5 years working across a number of projects including the integration of Digital Equipment Limited into Compaq, setting up of Supplier owned inventory Hubs and managing SAP implementations across the UK. Following this Garry worked for a further 7 years with Hewden, a division of Finning International. During this time Garry lead a number of commercial projects including the creation of shared finance team in Glasgow responsible for the financial management of over 350 operating depots with assets totalling in excess of £500m. In 2009 Garry moved to Clyde Union Limited as UK Finance Director. During this time he was an integral part of the team which sold the business for over £500m to SPX corporation in 2011. Garry spent two further years with SPX following the acquisition during which time he lead the restructuring of the main UK operations in Glasgow returning the business to profitability in 2013. In 2014 Garry joined Clyde Blowers Capital working on a number of acquisitions including Fergusons ship yard as well as a number of engineering businesses across mining and industrial sectors. Garry joined Enterprise Foods in January 2017 as Finance Director.
Chief Operating Officer
Jeremy Hinds has been working in the baking industry, within manufacturing, retail management and buying roles for nearly 40 years. After serving a formal 3 year apprenticeship he completed the National Diploma in Baking Technology at the National Bakery School – University of the South Bank and subsequently began a 16 year career working for Sainsburys. Starting as a bakery manger and working within a number of super-stores in the South East he also spent 3 years supporting the store wide implementation and management of Sales Based Ordering before returning to the Bakery Category as Regional Bakery Manager responsible for the operation of 80 + in-store bakeries across the South East. 2.5 years as a category buyer for In-store bakery raw materials then followed before the opportunity to work once again within the craft sector presented itself in 2001 and he joined Enterprise Foods at the start of our journey promoting and supporting small local suppliers and manufacturers.
Tony Bryant worked in further education for 17 years where he went from a Mechanical Engineering Technician to IT Manager for a large Scottish college. It was within this employment that Tony was a key component in setting up and teaching in one of the first Cisco Certified Training Academies in Scotland. Tony left the college to join Enterprise Foods in 2005, during this time Tony has been instrumental in developing and growing the company’s IT services, systems and infrastructure, moulding the company into a self-sufficient e-trading hub.
Business Unit Director
Declan McMahon joined Enterprise Foods as a ‘graduate into food business’ in 2000 following completion of a Business Degree at Glasgow University and a Post Graduate Diploma in IT from Paisley University. He has been part of the development of Enterprise Foods over the years, working across many exciting projects. Initially working within the Operations team, he supported the major retail and foodservice accounts covering all aspects of the business from supply chain, commercial analysis, finance, IT and account management. Within a year Declan moved into Account Management and has been instrumental in rolling out the core craft bakery business model within Co-op over the past 15 years – delivering great sales growth to customers and suppliers through projects like Range Reviews, Category Management, Supplier Development, Marketing, Merchandising, Sales Based Ordering and Electronic Invoicing. This resulted in Enterprise Foods being awarded ‘Supreme Supplier of the Year’ and ‘Bakery Supplier of the Year’ in 2011. Over the past few years, he has been working on the development of our ‘Local Sourcing’ project which takes Enterprise Foods beyond bakery and into all other categories, resulting in Enterprise Foods being awarded the Co-op ‘Local Supplier of the Year’ award in 2016. Declan is happily married with two young kids.
Aoife Kenny has worked in FMCG for over 25 years. She worked for PepsiCo for over 15 years in a career covering Foodservice, Retail and Wholesale in the UK. In PepsiCo, Aoife was also appointed the Divisional Controller for Walkers when they launched into Northern Ireland and went on to be the General Manager for Walkers in Ireland working closely with the distributors as well as managing the marketing and sales functions for the Island of Ireland. Her experience of chilled and frozen was earned during her time working for Kepak in the UK, as the Business Development Director. In Kepak Aoife did a number of roles during her 7 years working with the business, including Grocery Controller, Export Manager, Convenience Controller and Foodservice Director. During her time at Kepak, Aoife also lived and worked in France for two years and speaks fluent French. Aoife joins us from Aryzta, where she was the Head of Retail UK. She is a keen cyclist and has participated in several trade events including raising over £250,000 for the Mines Advisory Group, along with several other industry directors.
